Sofos1990 smashes the memory frequency world record once more with GIGABYTE Z97X-SOC FORCE LN2 board

Yes, that's right. Sofos1990 has beaten an already insane memory frequency world record with a frequency of 2310.1 (DDR3-4620).

GIGABYTE Z97X-SOC FORCE LN2 motherboard was the board of choice once again. Kingston HyperX MFR ICs were the memories used.

For all those doubting Thomases, the result was validated at HWBOT.ORG

Here is also a video with an oscilloscope verifying a DDR3-4560 frequency

Lab501 reflects on overclocking at Computex 2014, good read!

Intel-021A mate of mine from Romania, Monstru, runs a famous tech website called Lab501 and loves his oveclocking. He’s paid Taipei a visit this year during Computex 2014 and felt compelled to write about all the overclocking events during and after the show. He noticed a lot of changes with this special hobby in the last 5 years. Monstru is no stranger to overclocking, nor is his team mate Matose who was the GOOC 2010 world wide champion. These guys are my old school OC mates and did a stellar job covering all the craziness. Monstru also speculated what we might see in the future, more professional OC scene, bigger and better things to come. Jump over to Lab501 to read more about it. We overclock and drink beer (&arm wrestle too!)

The Desktop PC is Dead…Not!

Everyone’s been talking about it. With the rise in popularity and efficiency of the handheld devices, many are choosing to move their computing needs towards the notebook / Smartphone / Tablet market. Such a trend  should mean the death of the desktop computer in the very near future.

Well it seems that the future of desktops is not so grim after all. Intel said Thursday afternoon that it now expects to achieve $13.7 billion in second quarter revenue — plus or minus $300 million — up from its original guidance of $13 billion plus or minus $500 million. The company said it expects the midpoint of its gross margin to increase 1%, to 64%, driven by higher PC unit volume.

Directly impacting those numbers is the giant hardware refresh that is taking place in so many businesses. Windows XP is now an obsolete platform that is lacking the technical support which companies need to rely on. What if your employees computer are affected by the latest bug running around and that your company’s data is at risk? No one can afford that kind of threat. So if you are going to change the operating system amongst your enterprise, why not at the same time refresh the hardware that’s been running it for so many years. After all, it's a very justifiable investment that will result in better performance and longer lasting equipment, all for the benefit of the company.

This change is meaning big bucks for Intel and the desktop industry! Intel revised its full-year forecast, saying that the higher business PC unit volume has led it to expect “some revenue growth for the year,” compared to the previously flat outlook. Full-year gross margin is now projected to fall in the upper half of the previous range of 61%, plus or minus a few percentage points, which Intel said is driven by “expected improvements in unit cost and volume.

The desktop PC’s life is far from being over, and the future looks good!

GIGABYTE Z97X-SOC Force LN2 board can break memory frequency records with all major brands easily

The new GIGABYTE Z97X-SOC Force LN2 is the new memory overclocking board that easily put a stamp on last week’s Computex competitions based on memory frequency benching from GIGABYTE record breaking press conference to Intel “Unleash the beast” competition and Kingston’s HyperX OC Takeover competition.

One thing that may not be apparent to many is besides having decent RAM, you also need the right motherboard. Not only that but we can push all memory vendors to some sky high frequencies and we broke frequency world records with all the RAM in quick pretesting.

Here is sofos1990 showing off RAM from Corsair, G.Skill and Kingston all doing DDR3-4500+ at HWBOT forum.
